BECAUSE OF LOVE h lena jones Each year as Eastertide draws nigh Reflection time it is for me And so I pray and read about The Man who gave His life for me. Why did He have to do this deed? Why did I have to sin? Why didn’t I take His place? And so to church at noon I go Good Friday the day of woe I stare upon the wooden cross And fight the tears that threat to fall. Why did He have to do this deed? Why did I have to sin? Why didn’t I take His place? And then the start of service comes Bang, bang, hammer strikes upon the cross Each piercing sound, a cruel blow Of nail drive inch by inch. My heart laments, the tears do fall I can no longer stem the flow I feel the pain, I want to die Why did they have to take His life? And then His words in mind I hear “No man taketh it from me, but I lay down myself…for if I go not away the Comforter will not come unto you…” More comforting words from Isaiah I hear “But He was wounded for our transgressions He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” How selfless was my Lord and God To give His life for my iniquities Thank you Jesus for love so great Fill me with unselfishness Never let me count the cost. Why did He have to die? Because of love, He did this deed. |
