A Friend A friend is someone You can call upon Anytime your heart is burdened; A friend will listen patiently And offer opinion only if you ask; A friend will laugh and cry with you; And not condemn or mercilessly interrogate; A friend will never divulge a secret shared For then that would be a tattle-tale; A friend like that you should avoid! If now you say you have no friend In whom you can trust with all your heart; For you had several bosom friends before Only they have left you hurt and deeply scarred; It’s best then to make Jesus your personal Friend He never tires of listening, asks no questions And has no need to gossip about your pain; He has a heart that is compassionate Offer comfort and peace, No more burdens No more pain! “But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all thy works.” (Psalm 73:28) (From my book - Inside the Shell) |

A Listening Ear If blessed With a listening ear Lend it to that hurting someone To show just how much you care Even though you silently listen And feel you cannot help; Quietly pray, ask the Lord for patience; Be assured that your listening ear Is healing for your friend; For while you think You are useless The Holy Spirit Is at work! “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities; for we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26) (From my book - Inside the Shell) |
A Burden Shared A burden shared Is a burden halved! Sometimes when we grieve We think it’s best to be left alone; To find a friend with a listening ear! It isn’t that we seek advice On how to ease the pain of grief; That is the last thing we desire; It’s just that talking to someone offers Release and calms the stressed-out soul; “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18) From my book of Inspirational Prose Inside The Shell |
At His Feet Why hang on, my friend, To Fears and anxieties; Regret and chronic pain; Years of guilt and shame; Impatience, depression, failure; Resentment, stress, bitterness, rejection; hopelessness and unforgiveness? Oh, what needless pain and burdens we bear When there is someone ready and willing To lift those burdens and lighten our load! His name is Jesus, friend to all! He would gladly lift your load If you but leave them at His feet Trusting in His words of compassion! “Come to me all ye who are heavy laden And I will give thee rest.” |
